It's just June and I'm already dreaming of white stuff. What kind of summer upgrades or maintenance are you all doing on your Ski-Doo Summit models to kill time until winter gets here?

I just upgraded my shocks and added a new lightweight bumper, I am also doing a full tune-up, I gotta keep the Summit ready for that first snowfall, cant wait!!!!

I feel that, so last summer, I swapped in new sliders, checked the clutch alignment, and upgraded to a stiffer track tension spring on my Summit, it helped a ton when snow finally hit

Man, you guys are on the ball getting your sleds ready already! Those are some great suggestions. The clutch alignment from @Skibby Doo is something I hadn't thought much about. Was that a job you did yourself or did you need special tools for it?

Thought I'd answer this since I do a lot of off-season tune-up, working in a ski resort. We've had ours for a good number of years already and they've seen a lot of hard miles on the hill. You'd need a clutch alignment bar or an alignment tool for that, and there's a specific size for different ski-doos. You can get them from most snowmobile parts places online, and they aren't super expensive. It shouldn't be so hard to do once you have the right tool for the job and a service manual to follow. It's really just a matter of checking the spacing between the clutches and shimming them if they aren't right. It's an important step for belt life and for getting all the power to the track, especially if you're riding a Summit. We've been doing a ton of these for the guides' sleds, getting everything dialed in before the first snow.

Sure, glad I can help! Once you get it set up correctly, it should be good for a while. We usually check ours annually as part of the off-season service, but that's because our sleds see a lot of heavy use. For a recreational rider, it's not a bad idea to check it every season, especially if you're replacing belts or doing other major work, but it shouldn't be shifting on its own if everything is torqued down correctly. It's a quick check once you have the tools, and it's good for peace of mind!
